WEEK IN REVIEW
On the Mend
By Abbas Akhtar
With most of the shock of the bank failures behind us, this past week had some much needed recovery for many stocks. A number of shares we’ve reported on in past issues saw decent upticks last week and yesterday. Because of internal issues or small scale industry volatility (energy sector, consumer staples, banking) many stocks were at 3 or 6 month lows. This past week seemed to be an improvement.
Coca-Cola, which we reported on in our Need Stronger Staples? issue was trading below $61 a share since early February. Since Friday, the stock has been on a mini-rally as the share price rose 1.96% and hit $61.35 as of Monday’s market close.
Occidental Petroleum, which we talked about a few months ago in Stepping on the Gas, had a similar positive streak after a month of fluctuating. Since early February, the stock has been revisiting the $57 mark, which was disappointing to many after last November when the stock rallied to $74, which it hadn’t seen in a while.
WEEKLY WATCHLIST
Cooling Off
This week, we’re choosing not to report on any stocks. We’re looking to let some of the volatility from the last few weeks cool down as we find more stocks to report on in the coming weeks. Additionally, Q1 2023 earnings are just around the corner, and we want to bring you an exciting list of well-researched companies during that time.
