UPDATE
🌤️ Happy Thursday
Good morning. Happy Thanksgiving Day! We hope this week up until now was productive and you’re looking to enjoy some time with loved ones today 🍗
In the spirit of gratitude, I (Abbas) wanted to thank you for reading along for the last year or so. Around this time last year, I was brainstorming ideas about how to turn my interest in investing into something more.
I really do hope you’ve learned something from these newsletters and are excited to learn more going forward.

WEEK IN REVIEW
📈 Market Performance

S&P 500 (1-month), via Google Finance
For the past month or so, the S&P 500 has been slowly paving a way upwards. Since mid-September, analysts have been predicting (and we’ve been reporting) that the index was slipping under the weight of inflation and rate hikes.
As yields on short-term treasuries have been falling, the big three indices have all been rising in value. The S&P seems on the brink of breaking the 4,600-point mark, which would’ve sounded improbable only a month ago.
Similar to the indices that they reside in, the big tech stocks like Apple, Microsoft, and Amazon have all seen sizable increases in their stock prices.
As of Wednesday’s market close, AAPL is trading at $191.31 and the company is on the verge of hitting $3T in market cap.
🧢 What’s Important About Market Cap?

Apple Stock Viewer, via PixaHive
Market capitalization, or market cap, is an important metric for investors and analysts to evaluate a company’s worth and performance. It represents the total value of a company's outstanding shares of stock. In other words, it's the total value that the trading world has assigned to the company.
This number is calculated by multiplying the total number of outstanding shares of stock by the current price of one share. A company with a high market cap is generally considered to be more stable and valuable than a company with a lower market cap. The metric also provides insights into the company's size, growth potential, and overall financial health.
In addition, market cap is often used as a basis for determining the composition of stock indices, such as the S&P 500. Companies with higher market caps are typically given more weight in these indices, and their performance can have a significant impact on the overall performance of the index, hence why Apple has the most weight.
