Issue #34 // Return to Fair Value + Threads' Desktop Launch

UPDATE

🌤️ Happy Wednesday

Good afternoon. Seeing as it’s noon, we’re officially at the hump of hump day: 🐪

Now that the first two days of the week are behind us, so is much of the stock market volatility. In our findings, the Wednesday-Friday timeframe has a generally calmer trend than the craziness of Monday/Tuesday.

In other news, MARK IT. is moving back to Tuesday mornings after our summer shift to Wednesdays. We hope you appreciate this return to our roots and enjoy this week’s issue!

WEEK IN REVIEW

📈 Market Performance

S&P 500 (5-day), via Google Finance

To say that this past week was a rollercoaster for the S&P would be an understatement. Shortly after the release of last week’s issue #33 | Are Summer Joys Over?, began a near 2% drop that lasted from Thursday morning to mid-Friday. This brief decline sent the index below the 4,400 mark and bottomed out at around 4,345 points.

  • We mentioned last week how the summer rally may be coming to an end, as the market readjusts to normal business operations without the impact of summer breaks. However, this isn’t necessarily negative. If predictions are true, this trend is the start of a return to normal value instead of an all-out decline.

After some brief volatility during trading hours on Monday, the S&P began a steady climb back up to the 4,400-point mark and now sits at around 4,415 at the time of publication.

🧵 Threads: Coming to a Computer Near You

Tuesday morning was a big day for Meta, as its subsidiary platform, Threads, launched a web version of the app. Threads is Meta’s attempt at a Twitter/X competitor, and the platform now boasts 125 million users. (Source: Quiver Quant)

  • One thing to note is that Threads is built into Facebook’s ecosystem, as users must have an Instagram account to create a Threads account.

Nevertheless, opening Threads up to the desktop world could have tremendous benefits for the company. Many professionals, publications, and creators use scheduling apps and other programs to help their workflows. With more possibilities for these programs on desktop vs. mobile, Threads could soon rival Twitter as a digital marketplace.
